US, Canada to update Great Lakes water quality agreement

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson and a Canadian official on Friday plan to sign an update to the two nations' longstanding Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.

She and Canadian Environment Minister Peter Kent plan to sign the update at the Canadian Embassy in Washington. The update concludes negotiations begun in 2009 on new protections for the lakes. The last update was finished in 1987.
