As oil prices climb, Hastings and Salazar duel over offshore drilling
House Republicans and the Obama administration traded punches over offshore drilling on Wednesday, as lawmakers advanced a bill to expand the leasing of Outer Continental Shelf tracts.
The House Natural Resources Committee easily approved its plan to replace the 2012-2017 offshore five year program proposed by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. The bill by Chairman Doc Hastings, R-Wash., was approved on a largely party-line 24-17 vote.
