Oil posts 8.5 percent gain for quarter

NEW YORK (AP) — Oil ended the third quarter with a slight gain as investors weighed whether the world economy could pull out of the doldrums.

Benchmark oil rose 34 cents to settle at $92.19 per barrel in New York. In London, Brent crude, which reflects what most U.S. refineries have to pay for oil, rose 38 cents to $112.39 a barrel.
