Newsmaker: Standards group ready to advance electric vehicles

As with any new technology, the promise of electric cars to offer drivers potentially cheap power from lower-carbon sources has run into many questions about feasibility and safety.
A new report issued Monday said numerous standards, many of them surrounding lithium-ion batteries, need to be written or updated if electric cars are to take off in the United States.
