More oversight urged for key EPA water pollution program
The Environmental Protection Agency needs to provide more oversight to a key program that funds projects to control water pollution from runoff sources like farms, sewers and construction sites, the Government Accountability Office is warning.
In an audit released this week, GAO said 28 percent of the projects the EPA program funds in states failed to meet all their objectives, and many of the reasons for failure or complications could have been prevented.
