Interior hit from both sides over fracturing regulations

The Interior Department has been flooded with comments on President Barack Obama's proposal to regulate hydraulic fracturing on federal lands that has sandwiched the administration between industry and environmentalists.

Individual companies and trade groups in many cases called for the issue to be left entirely to state governments. Meanwhile, environmental interests urged the Bureau of Land Management to impose even tougher rules that those currently proposed.
