House Republicans summon NRC commissioners to testify on post-Jaczko era

With the tumultuous era of ex-Chairman Gregory Jaczko now over, his replacement and three of her colleagues at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are getting their first opportunity to explain to lawmakers how they will steer the country's nuclear safety agency in the face of unexpected roadblocks to the expansion of nuclear power.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee plans to have newly-confirmed Chairman Allison M. Macfarlane testify at hearing before two subcommittees on July 24, with commissioners William Magwood, William Ostendorff and Kristine Svinicki. Missing will be Commissioner George Apostolakis, who will be visiting his mother in Greece on a previously-planned trip, a committee spokeswoman said.
