Fuel efficiency program needs more scrutiny, EPA watchdog says

The Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay Transport Partnership has successfully deployed fuel efficient technologies and reduced emissions, but the data used to measure its success is vulnerable to the possibility that companies could misrepresent data to make themselves look better, the agency's inspector general says.

The watchdog suggested EPA develop a better way to verify the reported information.  The agency agreed and is working on crating a five-step program to make sure reported data is accurate.
