First arrest made in Gulf oil spill case
The Justice Department on Tuesday made its first arrest in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill investigation, charging an ex-engineer from BP with obstruction of justice.
Kurt Mix, 50, of Katy, Texas, was charged with two counts of obstruction of justice in a criminal complaint filed in the Eastern District of Louisiana and unsealed Tuesday.
Mix is accused of deleting records relating to the amount of oil flowing from the Macondo well after the accident two years ago led to the worst oil spill in Ameican history.
The Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010, killing 11 men and spewing 200 million gallons of oil.
