Carbon tax could yield billions, CRS finds

A federal carbon tax would generate billions of dollars in additional deficit-cutting revenues, but the same political challenges that stopped past proposals remain today, a new report by the Congressional Research Service finds.

Even if a new tax or carbon cap-and-trade plan were adopted, the chances of all the money going to deficit reduction would be unlikely, CRS stressed in a report released this month.
