Analysis: As gas prices drop, war over energy policy cools

Just like that, the war of words over gas prices has entered another cease-fire.

It's not because prices have fallen all that much. The average price as of Sunday was $3.82 for regular unleaded, and consumers in higher-cost states were paying more than $4 at the pump.

The key is that prices have stopped rising, and appear to be moving slowly lower. But what's also of note is that Americans aren't threatening politicians with pitchforks and torches over gas prices.
